A stakeholders’ workshop on road safety was organised by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MOPIT) at Everest Hotel Kathmandu following the series of high profile road crashes with significant number of multiple fatalities in the country. Dr Partha Mani Parajuli and Dr Kali Prasad Nepal presented their work on the Development of Road Safety Management System in Nepal and explained how a systemic approach can be developed and implemented in Nepal to reduce such fatal and serious injury crashes. Other speakers were Saroj Pradhan from RSSN, Nepal, Kamal Subu and Jim Javis from TRL UK on road safety awareness works, road accident database system developed by TRL for use in developing countries and some case studies of road safety engineering in developing countries.
The workshop was chaired by Mr. Tulasi Sitaula, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. Mr Lila Mani Paudyal, Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal was the chief guest of the event
Distinguished guests and workshop participants commended the works done by NRSMS Team, in particular by Dr Kali Prasad Nepal and Dr. Partha Parajuli and spoke about finalising the proposal incorporating inputs from the participants and submit to the Government for its consideration.
